Scope
To discuss, in situ, the manifestation of the risks of overflows and flooding in the Mondego vestibular part, and erosion, in the coastal strip between Figueira da Foz and Aveiro, as well as mitigation measures implemented.
Itinerary (1 day visit)
Coimbra, Parque Verde do Mondego, Alfarelos, Montemor-o-Velho, Cova Gala, Figueira da Foz, Praia de Mira (Norte), Praia do Areão, Vagueira, Barra, Praia da Barra.
Visit limited to 50 participants.
Goals
- Explore the main risks affecting the Mondego River vestibular area (with particular emphasis on overflows and floods in the fall/winter of 2019/20);
- Analyze the measures implemented with the objective of mitigating their manifestation (particular emphasis will be given to the hydraulic exploitation of the Mondego Valley and the recent deforestation process of Albufeira do Açude – Ponte de Coimbra);
- Analyze the use and integrated use of water resources of the Mondego basin;
- Discuss in situ the erosion processes that affect the main beaches from Figueira da Foz to Aveiro, responsible factors and mitigation measures.
